Sarah Rice Joins PAVE:

MTV Real World Brooklyn

Currently on MTV’s Real World Brooklyn, Sarah Rice has made a tremendous impact as she candidly opened up about her past history of sexual violence by both her father and a day care worker. Having dated both men and women, Sarah also discusses lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender issues, though she does not put a label on herself or box herself into any category. Sarah also believes in finding healing through art and is in school to become an art therapist. Sarah is an inspiration to many people for her voice and we are excited to have both Sarah and her mom on board with PAVE to help shatter the silence of sexual violence!

End Violence in the Congo

Art & Action

There have been tens of thousands of women raped in the Democratic Republic of Congo. United Nations officials are calling it one of the worst instances of violence against women in the world.

To help shatter the silence surrounding this sexual violence

The Voices and Faces Project

has supported a documentary initiative to collect testimonies of survivors so the public can see first hand the effects of violence.

A series of portraits of war from the Democratic Republic of Congo –Congo/Women– explores this issue in a way that calls for action. The exhibit will be in Washington D.C. March 5th and New York City on March 16. Artwork was produced by the folowing featured photographers:

Lynsey Addario, Marcus Bleasdale, Ron Haviv and James Nachtwey.

The people who have bravely shared their images with the photographers in this exhibition are experiencing the individual reality of the crisis reflected by these statistics. We invite you to show your support for the women and girls of Congo by joining the online gallery and being counted in their numbers – upload your photo today and join the visual petition!

Also, find out how you can take action to end violence in the Congo with Amnesty International.

PAVE Impacts Greeks!

In February, PAVE worked to educate scores of fraternity and sorority members from across the country. In February, the National Black Greek Leadership Conference was held in conjunction with the Mid-American Greek Council with over 2000 people in attendance. PAVE’s Angela Rose and Jaime Gill (both pictured) presented a workshop about multiculturalism and shattering the silence of sexual violence. They provided tips on creating programs on their own campus to continue this work. Also, PAVE’s Executive Director Angela Rose, trained over 350 sorority and fraternity members at the University of South Alabama.

the Campus Safety Act was past unanimously  by the U.S. House of Representatives. Under this bill a National Center for Campus Public Safety will be established to help colleges respond to the security challenges.
This Center will be administered through the U.S. Department of Justice’s Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) program. Both colleges and nonprofits will be be eligible for their grants to support campuses through training and education.

Clarification

We apologies for any confusion caused by writing that Security on Campus’ training was on Title XI, it is in fact on the Clery Act.
