Running on Empty?
Does that describe you?  It describes almost everyone I’ve spoken with this month. From an energetic perspective, the field
is shifting rapidly.
Holding on to the past is one sure fired way to keep our energy low.  Fear of change and the loss of control are two of the things that keep us off our game.  Add the need for approval (a human condition) and you’re sure to run out of gas.
Life is shifting moment by moment, breath by breath. Things we take for granted are no longer guaranteed.
What to do?  Now, more than ever, it’s time to clean house, literally and figuratively.  My good friend, Dr. Janet Knox, says, "You’ve got to do ‘In the meantimes’ while you are waiting
for your next step to appear."  This is more important than ever.
Waiting, while not comfortable, is what’s called for now.
This is an active waiting. Just as we wait while the gas pump refuels our car, we must participate by getting to the pump.
That’s where in the meantime comes in.  Faith, or faithing, is the application of intentional movement toward our goal.
1.  Cleaning your closets. Make room for the new.
2.  Clean out old beliefs that no longer serve you.  Awareness is power!
3. Be gentle with yourself.  You don’t beat the car when it runs out of gas, you find a station to refuel.  When you’re running on empty, it’s not the time to beat yourself up.
4.  Recognize and release things that don’t work.  Stop tolerating and start enjoying life as it is.  Surround yourself with positive, insightful people who can help you make the shift.
5.  If you’re really stuck, find a mentor who can help you move forward. Rather than condemn your situation, invest in yourself and grow from it.  "What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger."
Above all, love yourself, love your situation, and love that you are alive. It beats the alternative.

Great news, Mikes going to be on Oprah, Oct 20th….

Hello Folks,

I realize that you folks are too far away to attend, but given our friendship, I thought to share this news with you.

Take care, Mike

The Surviving Spirit – Healing the Heart Through the Creative Arts

Out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls; the most massive characters are seared with scars. – Kahlil Gibran

Hello Folks,

I hope all is well for everyone, no complaints here. Things have been quite exciting here in my little corner of the world. It’s been busy, but with all of the exciting news and events that have been going on, I am certainly not complaining – quite the contrary.

First some really good news, my oldest daughter Alisa gave birth the other day to her second daughter…she and little Ava are both doing well…this is really exciting for “Grandpa Mike”.

And continuing with the ‘good news department’ – please mark your calendars for Wednesday October 20th. Yours truly will be on the Oprah Winfrey Show. This still has me in the “pinch me I’m dreaming mode”…she is doing a show on male survivors of childhood sexual abuse and the whole audience will be made up of male survivors. To be a part of this is truly an honor – still unsure whether my role will be active or passive. But to be asked to be a part of this significant event is quite humbling and so special to me and for the greater good it will have upon society as a whole.

My being away the last two weeks for presentations and performances in NY and CA are the main reason why the late notice in sending out this event news for next Saturday October 16th taking place here in my home in at 38 River Ledge Drive, Goffstown, NH. Once again the Surviving Spirit will be hosting a “house concert” with the doors opening up at 6pm and music to start at 7 pm. Rumor has it that my good friend Chris Schindler may join me once again on bass guitar – very cool!!! If any of my fellow musician friends would like to sing or bring along their own instrument, please do. I also have a conga drum that is crying out to be used!!! There will be two sets of music and in between, a short break for mingling, socializing and learning what the Surviving Spirit is all about. We are trying to build a community of caring folks…so in that ‘spirit’, please do bring along a snack or drink to be shared. Alcohol is permitted at this event – thanks!! If you can attend or need directions, please let me know via e-mail or phone – 603-625-2136.

On a serious note, I am scheduled for surgery on November 8th for the removal of my left thumb joint due to severe arthritis. I am told I will be unable to use the hand for 3 – 4 months. So this will be my last performance for a while, so if you can join me for this night, it would be great to see you.

Take care, Mike

Hand in the Cookie Jar

October 11, 2010

this was really cool and very true for many of us…LadyJ

Hand stuck in the jar?

soulstreaker | October 10, 2010 at 8:49 pm | Tags: hand stuck in the jar, my soul salon, rena reese, the soul salon | Categories: advice | URL:

I once heard a story of a child who had gotten his hand stuck in a jar.  His father worked upwards of an hour to remove the boys hand from the small opening with no luck. The dad began to think he would have to break the ceramic jar to free his son’s hand.

Nearly at his wit’s end, he told the boy, "Son, let’s just try really hard to open up your hand very wide and stretch your fingers out making them as long as you possibly can."

To this, the little boy answered, "No way Daddy, then I would drop the penny and that’s the whole reason I put my hand in here and got into this mess."

How often do we find ourselves in a situation– that simply releasing something small could eliminate?  How often do we hold onto something that keeps us stuck–when letting go of it will free us?  Sometimes it is something small–and sometimes these things are quite big–but the ease with which we will free ourselves is often proportionate to the "that something."

What’s your penny?  Can you let it go?

All the best!
